It is a charming ancient town in Yunnan, inhabited by 14 villages of Bai and Yi people for generations. And yes, the house I’ve built sits in one of these villages. -->>
You’ll often see horses and tea as common sights here, because long ago, this town was a bustling trading post for tea and horses, situated on the Ancient Tea Route that stretches from Yunnan into Burma and Tibet. -->>
Shaxi is also a model in China for effectively preserving its culture and landscapes. From 2000 to 2006, a joint Swiss-Chinese preservation project spanned over 6 years, -->>
successfully maintaining not only the appearance but also the essence of authentic rural life.

Nothing remains unchanged. Due to the popular Chinese drama “Meet Yourself” (去有风的地方) in 2023, Shaxi has been exposed to the world and has since been changing — many antique wooden houses have been replaced by newly built, larger accommodations. Tourist-attracting shops started to emerge in the old town.
Currently these changes haven't affected the way locals live in the villages, their connection with the land remains, so does the authentic, harmonious flow of nature.
